Workshops

The Broadway Workshop offers special one and two day Master classes with Broadway Stars and Industry Professionals for young actors of ALL skill levels. Our Workshops allow students to learn from the best teachers in the business and build on the skills they have in a positive, supportive setting.

Workshops take place in NYC at Ripley-Grier Studios (520 8th Avenue, between 36th & 37th St.) and on tour in conjunction with theatre companies and other acting programs. E-mail us to host a workshop in your town.

On-Camera Commercial Master Class

Students will work with Katherine Ryan of Don Buchwald & Associates and Pat Goodwin of Telsey + Co. on how to act and audition for the camera. Each student will have the opportunity to get in front of the camera and work on every kind of commercial audition. Katherine and Pat will focus on how to create natural characters and how to feel comfortable working on camera with props, cue cards, improv, cold readings, and even voice over auditions!

Jack Plotnick Film & TV Workshop

Film & Television Star and Coach Jack Plotnick.

Direct from Los Angeles, successful actor, producer and acting coach to the stars, Jack Plotnick, will be working with students on how to ace auditions for film and television. This very special workshop gives students the opportunity to get feedback and coaching from one of the top coaches in the business. Mr Plotnick’s has worked with some of todays biggest stars like Alyson Hanigan, Zach Quinto, Sutton Foster, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara!

Students will not only get to work on scenes but also will get all the secrets to what casting directors are looking for. This workshop is ideal for young people just starting out in the world, as it helps them to avoid the pitfalls and time-wasting mistakes they might make.

Wicked Workshop 2

Kristy Cates as Elphaba in the hit musical Wicked.

Work with Kristy Cates who has starred on Broadway in Wicked, as well as Patrick Goodwin from Telsey + Co, the show’s casting directors. As with all TBW one day master classes, the Wicked Workshop will focus on all areas of performing, but this class will be specifically geared to Broadway’s number one musical!

Each student should prepare one musical theatre song of their choice for our panel. Topics covered are:

Howard Meltzer Casting Workshop Two

Direct from Los Angeles, Casting Director Howard Meltzer will be working with students on how to act and audition for film and television. This very special workshop gives students the opportunity to get feedback and coaching from a major casting director whose projects include Disney Channel’s TV Series Hannah Montana and Nickelodeon’s new musical movie Spectacular! Students will not only get to work on scenes from those projects but they will also get to sing a song of their choice for Mr. Meltzer. Topics covered are:

Get the advantages of a private acting coaching and a private vocal coaching in one 30-minute, exciting session with TBW Director Marc Tumminelli and Musical Director Sarah Statler. Every student will leave with a perfect song and the tools to make it their own!

Many young actors are not performing to their ability, simply because they don’t have material that shows them off in the best way. TBW Musical Coaching Day gives students the opportunity to have a private half hour coaching to help to find the perfect song. Each student will leave their half hour coaching with a great new song that perfectly suits them and allows them to shine at their next audition or performance!

Ashley Brown is currently starring on Broadway as Mary Poppins in the hit Disney musical. She recently made her Broadway debut as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Previously, she toured with Disney’s On the Record. She performed in The Leading Men of Broadway and participated in Broadway By the Year: 1956 at the MUNY. Training: Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (BFA, Laurie Beechman Award).

This one day workshop will focus on preparing for and executing an audition for a musical - be it a professional production, college audition or school play. Kristy Cates who has played the role of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, in the national tour and the Chicago company, will teach with Director of The Broadway Workshop, Marc Tumminelli. Topics covered will include song and monologue choice and interpretation, cold reading, working with an accompanist, headshots, résumés, dance auditions and more.
